How the funding finder works
You answer eight quick questions about what the money is for, how much you need, where the business is today, what security you can offer, who owns it, how tidy your records are, whether you would give up ownership, and how soon you need the money. The finder scores every route it covers against your answers and ranks them, then explains why each one fits, what to watch out for, and what that funder will ask you for.
The routes it covers
- Bank and commercial business loans
- SEDFA small-business loans, vouchers and grants
- NYDA grants for owners aged 18 to 35
- The NEF, for black-owned and black-empowered businesses
- The IDC, for industrial businesses
- Trade, purchase-order and invoice finance
- Bridging finance
- Angel, seed and venture capital
- Growth capital and private equity
- Acquisition and buyout funding
- Turnaround and business rescue advice
What it cannot tell you
It cannot tell you whether you will be approved. Funders set and change their own criteria and decide every application, so treat the shortlist as a well-reasoned starting point and confirm the current rules with each funder. It is at its most useful for the question most owners struggle with first: which door to knock on.
Questions, answered
Is the funding finder free?
Yes, it costs nothing. You enter your name and email at the end to see your results, and we add you to our monthly insights list, which you can leave at any time.
What happens to my answers?
Your answers are processed in your browser. When you enter your name and email to see your results, we receive them along with your answers and shortlist, so a principal can respond properly where your request is over R1 million, and we add your email to our monthly insights list. Like every page on caban.co.za, the site uses standard anonymous analytics.
How accurate is it?
It is indicative. It uses published criteria for each route, such as funding ranges and eligibility, but funders set and change their own rules and decide every application. Confirm the current criteria with the funder before you apply.
Does it only recommend Caban?
No. Most of the routes it covers, including banks, SEDFA, the NYDA, the NEF and the IDC, have nothing to do with us. Caban appears only where equity, growth capital, acquisition funding or readiness work is genuinely relevant.
What if nothing fits?
That usually points to readiness rather than a lack of options: records, compliance, or a request that does not yet match a funder's mandate. The finder tells you what to fix first, and our step-by-step guide and readiness check go further.
